a long, cold winter

This winter we've had plenty of snow as you can see from this picture of Deb. She stands beside one of the two major snow piles. I had to learn to use my legs more and my back less, through all the shoveling. Deb usually helps me more than well, but we now have only one shovel left. Deb is 4 feet 11 inches (149.86 centimeters). We're looking forward to Spring!

Well heck go get your girl a new shovel! Just kidding. How 'bout heat tape on the drive way?

Heat tape on the driveway. Well that's a new one to me! Thanks, Lanny. Nah, actually Deb enjoys shoveling up to a point, just a little too much of a "good" thing the last two winters, I guess especially catching up with us this winter.

But what a wonderful Saturday today (the photo is last Saturday). Sun is out, over 50 degrees F, and snow and ice are melting fast. We went out to a coffee, bagel place and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Ted - We just got back from the BEACH! The ice extends as far out on the lake as I can see, but the sand is getting squishy and there are lake-puddles all over the parking lot. We soaked out boots/shoes getting from the car to the place where we figured the lake's edge must be. But it was so worth it! The fresh breezes are cool, but not biting cold. This thaw is a great respite from the intense winter, isn't it? We know winter weather will be back, but this sort of fortifies us for the next round. Hope you thoroughly enjoy it!

Thanks, Mama K. In fact I just remarked to Deb today that it would have been nice if we could have gone to the lake today. Her work did not permit that. But it would be a nice time to see the lake and all the ice moving on it.

But yes, what a wonderful day here! And you're right. We're not out of the woods yet, but this is a nice respite and relief from the cold.

Glad you folks had a nice time.

Wow! the only way for me to experience that kind of snow is for me to drive up to the mountains! I live in the central valley in California, and we are just happy when it decides to rain around here. :-)

"major" is a good word to discribe that snow pile!

Kurt,
I think you live in a lovely area. Hopefully you do get enough rain. We get lake effect here, though it's much heavier closer to, and especially on the lakefront. But this time of winter we get to have some sunshine again, mostly lacking the first part.

Nancy,
Yes, and I'm sure that's especially true for most of you Oregonians.
