human fellowship

God became human to have fellowship with us. This is in large part the purpose of the Incarnation, though it is staggering in its full meaning and implications.

I don't care too much about chatting with someone on politics. Or sports. Or a whole host of things that with this world are passing away. What we do commend and appreciate is a fellowship of love that is caring for the other person. To listen to them, to understand what their struggle may be at the time, or to be able to share one's own struggle or problem with someone is such a blessing, and an important part of true human fellowship.

Jesus as Immanuel: God with us, connects with us in a true special way, and this connection, in a sense connects us in Jesus, all with each other. Isn't it amazing how we find this to be true. But it's a fellowship that is grounded and centered in our Lord. And by that, we begin to participate in the fellowship of who God is as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

With everyone, let's seek this fellowship and see if we can find Jesus present even in the most unlikely places. He may be there to help woo a loved one or friend to himself, even an enemy. And let's treasure his presence in our fellowship with each other, giving us an ongoing and growing knowing of each other, and above all of God himself, in Jesus.

What would you like to add here?

Ted,
Thanks for your comments on my blog. I am safely at L'Abri, and spent some time today talking with Greg of Living Spirituality.

I hope all is well.

this reminds me
to see
to think as i am doing
as i am living
how God in the living,
relating,
touching,
entering into relationship, communicating,
and just being together
with another human

or even being
alone
and
seeing
that God
is there
with me.
or humans.

Sometimes I think He meant to show us that if He could deign to do this, we should too. In other words, we too must embody the Kingdom. Sort of as you've already suggested.

I hope I can honestly step up to the challenge of finding Jesus where he is at, especially when he is in the most "unlikely" places.

Thank you so much for another wonderful post.

I've been thinking about this post and your earlier one and how they connect. How being carried connects with the idea of fellowship. There's that verse--I think it's in the epistles somewhere--about carrying one another's burdens.

It's been a confusing year, and it's in seasons like this that I am so greatful for the fellowship I find through your blog, and through various neighbors, my local church...I am greatful for the way connecting with others and admitting my needs has helped me to carry my burdens.

It seems like it is in our relationships that we often find the most pain, but it is also there that God often chooses to reveal Himself.

John,
Great to hear from you, and glad you have this opportunity. I'll have to go to L'Abri's website and learn more and what's up there now.

Things seem good or okay over here, by God's grace. One of my sisters remarked that my face looks sad on the photo now. Maybe so, and I may have been tired that day and a bit frazzled, but it's more natural. Ha. Thanks.

Nancy,
Nice thoughts. And yes, it is kind of fun to put a new photo up here and there. I kind of thought I'd try to do this maybe every six months or so. I certainly have a new look with this short hair, but am losing it. Like I said, on the last comment, my sis thinks I look sad. I am a hat person, and this part of our house is cold. I could use a heater down here, though I just bundle up some.

But I like your photo, and that's interesing. Nice creativity on your part, and a nice photo.

L.L.,
Yes. I'm reading Eugene Peterson's "The Jesus Way" right now, and I think something of what he's saying or is going to say in this book will touch on what you're saying. Good point and one to ponder. And so true. The Jesus way- God becoming human so we may become like God as humans.

Craver,
Good thought about stepping up to the challenge in finding Jesus in those unlikely places. Yes, that's all but lost to me, surely many times. I need to really work on this, even in being more thoughtful this direction, and aware of it.

The Walk,
Thanks so much for sharing, and for your encouraging, gracious words. We do need to share with each other as brothers and sisters in Jesus, and pray. We're in this together, never apart, in our consitution as one body in Jesus, and in our identity in Jesus.

Good to hear of God's grace to help you through others. I know this is true in my own case as well.

And yes, relationships can provide the most pain, but along with that, the most joy. But all in Jesus, and that makes all the difference for us now, and in the long run, for sure.
