a new day

This is the day the Lord has made,
let us be glad and rejoice in it.
(Psalm 118:24)

Though this rendering may be taking the verse out of context (note TNIV here) I do think that this is a truth that is new every morning for us, in Christ. Whatever we might make of time, God is sovereign over it and there is a newness in what he is doing, even in this old, fallen world of which we are a part (and coming apart sometimes, as we grow older in years).

We need to see each day as something new and special from God because of Christ, and of which we are a part of, intimately, in the coming of God's kingdom into the world in Jesus.

This should give us hope in areas in which there seems to be little hope. And strength as we anticipate by faith, the Lord's goodness to us, and seek to live out of that favor, in service to all others.

Amen Ted, I love that verse and it was one of my favorite songs to sing growing up in the Catholic Church. Ahhh, I can hear it now.

Reminds me of the verse in Ecclesiates about the Lord's mercies being new every morning. There are so many mornings when that truth is the only reason I get out of bed. With new mercy, who knows what I might be able to accomplish in Christ.

I wish we'd sing more songs like that in our various traditions!

Thanks, JP!

Amen, Charity. Each new day brings new everything, in a way, in God through Christ. Really an adventure if we can just get on track. Reminds me of a verse I ran across in my Scripture pondering today: "set your heart on the right path" (Proverbs 23:19). Each day is a new opportunity for that, though for that matter in the midst of each day we keep endeavoring to be on that path. Then I find myself in prayer for others and other-oriented, instead of self-absorbed.
